World Tourism Day has once again highlighted Pakistan’s vast tourism potential, from the mountains of Gilgit-Baltistan to the country’s historic, cultural and religious destinations.
In Gilgit-Baltistan, however, tourism stakeholders expressed disappointment over the lack of official activities marking World Tourism Day. Environmental experts also warned that uncontrolled tourism could place additional pressure on the region’s fragile mountain ecosystems.
Gilgit-Baltistan remains one of Pakistan’s most important tourism regions, with destinations such as Hunza, Skardu and other mountain valleys attracting visitors from Pakistan and abroad.
Experts say sustainable tourism, environmental protection and better infrastructure could help Pakistan benefit economically while protecting its natural landscapes.
Pakistan has enormous tourism potential, but sustainable development will be essential to protect its mountains and attract more visitors.
